Our Mission
We, the people of the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located in Darby, Pennsylvania, recognize our call to proclaim the Gospel, grow as Christians, remain a beacon of hope, and respond to the ongoing changes in our community.
Accepting the privilege and the challenge of our mission, we see ourselves as people of God within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Our Catholic Identity is based on, nurtured and enhanced by the following religious convictions:
- Worship of God requires full and active participation in Parish Liturgy.
- Our community life is built on a shared faith in the Trinity, mutual respect, hospitality to all and a willingness to participate in parish activities.
- Evangelization is necessary for the individual and our communal process of conversion to Christ. Evangelization includes reaching out to inactive Catholics and those searching for God.
- The revealed Word of God and the sacramental life of our church are sources of grace, which motivate and inspire our words and actions. Therefore, as Disciples of Christ, we are called to teach the Gospel to every generation.
- Our faith tells us we cannot separate love of God and love of neighbor. Consequently, we serve those in need through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Our willingness to serve also includes our responsibilities as American citizens.
- We expect our leaders to encourage collaboration and assist the laity in taking an active and responsible role in our parish. Our leadership supports the training of staff and volunteers to help accomplish the mission and goals of the parish.
- Stewardship, a sharing of time, talent and treasure, is basic and vital to our parish.
As the Holy Spirit has guided the Church’s growth throughout the centuries, it will continue to guide and strengthen us now and in the future.
